Police were notified of a suspicious package left in the Northland Homemaker Centre car park and evacuated nearby businesses and restaurants, including the McDonalds, on Murray Rd about 5pm.

The Bomb Squad were called in and the package destroyed by a remote controlled robot at around 9.30pm.

Police believe a woman driving a silver sedan in the area at the time may be able to help with their investigation.
